Nigerian children have made a passionate demand to governments at all levels for increased funding of the education sector, and the reduction in school fees charged in both public and private education centres.
This, according to them will address the increasing rates of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
The children who presented their demands at an event to mark the 2024 Children’s Day celebration held at Government House, Owerri, Imo State, appealed to the authorities to use the occasion to remember the underprivileged children, and do something decisive to enhance their wellbeing.
They also advised their fellow children to always speak up at all times, and study hard in order to upgrade themselves in life and become useful to the society.
Imo State Deputy Governor, Chinyere Ekumaro who represented the wife of the Governor, advised female children on the need to get the free immunization vaccine against cervical cancer
The funfair event was attended by pupils and students from nursery, primary, and secondary school levels from across the State.
Lots of gift items were handed out to the children to go home with.
