AIT-IMAGES - Customs Officers attacks VIO personnel in Abuja

Authorities of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS have condemned the action of their officers involved in the viral video showing them in confrontation with men of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, DRTS, popularly known as Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIO in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

NCS acknowledges that the incident occurred on Friday, May 24 May at AYA Roundabout and its officers involved in the regrettable attack are personnel attached to the Customs Mechanical Unit in Karu Barracks, Abuja.

Customs National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada in a statement said the Service wishes to express its deepest concern and empathy for those affected by this regrettable incident.

The Service said it dissociates itself from the actions of those officers and condemned their behaviour, which appears to be self-motivated, and will be thoroughly investigated for appropriate disciplinary measures to forestall future occurrences.

The statement said It is essential to state that this incident contradicts the values and operational standards of the NCS. Such behaviour undermines one of the key policy thrusts of the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC which is to foster collaboration with sister security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of Nigerians and their properties.

The statement further said that the NCS, under the leadership of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and his Management Team, strongly condemns such conduct and does not tolerate any actions that jeopardises the commitment to professionalism and inter-agency cooperation.
