Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah says his confrontational stance against the May 30, Biafra Heroes Sit-At-Home order was to prevent disruption of the ongoing Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination in the State.
Governor Mbah made this statement during a conversation on X-Space on Thursday night, marking his one-year anniversary in office.
The discussion took place on a day when the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had ordered a Sit-At-Home Day across the five States of the Southeast region to honor its fallen heroes from the Nigerian Civil war.
This also coincided with the day students were scheduled to sit for their General Mathematics exam, which the separatist group, IPOB had called on the examination body, WAEC to postpone.
Governor Mbah, responding to a question on why he maintained a confrontational stance against Biafra Heroes Day, said the consequences of candidates in the State and the entire Southeast region missing their General Mathematics exam would be significant and detrimental to their future, which is contrary to what their fallen heroes fought for.
Reports indicate that the examination was successfully conducted across Enugu State amidst heavy security presence
