Chairman of the independent national electoral commission INEC professor Mahmood Yakubu says, the Edo state Governorship election slated for September twenty first twenty twenty four will still go ahead despite the setbacks the commission office in Edo state suffered due to the ravaging flood which destroyed office equipment and electoral devices.
Professor Mahmood disclosed this in Benin City during a meeting with leaders of the various political parties and security heads in the state.

The INEC chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu and the commissioner of police in the state expressed concerns over the tension in some parts of the state where several gunshots occured at the venues of the ongoing continuous voters registration exercise.
The INEC chairman appealed to political actors to play the game by the rules and allow peace to reign in the forthcoming elections.
Representatives of the various political parties also spoke on current political happenings in the state.
There was a mild drama earlier during the introduction section as two persons laid clams to the authentic chairmanship of the Labour party in the state.
