In an effort to reduce transportation challenges confronting travellers between Cross River State’s riverine communities and its adjoining Akwa Ibom State, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has unveiled plans to partner investors in the regional water transportation corridors.

The Managing Director of NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku made this known during the unveiling of improved ferry services at Marina Resort in Calabar.

The inauguration of the Abitto Ferry Service according to the NDDC boss, is coming as a beacon of hope within the regional water transportation corridors.

While highlighting the prolonged sufferings endured by citizens due to the dilapidated state of the Calabar – Itu road, Ogbuku emphasized the commitment of the NNDC to support investments and projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of the region’s populace.

On their part, the Managing Director of the Cross River State Tourism Bureau, Ojoi Ekpenyong, joined by a Maritime Transporter, Richard Akinaka, spoke on the dual benefits of the ferry service, in significantly reducing travel time and promoting tourism within the State.

Underscoring the significance of water transportation, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, representing Cross River South Senatorial District, said it has the potentials to stimulate economic growth and enhance job creation.

As the citizens eagerly embrace this new means of travel, hopes are high for a brighter future characterized by improved mobility, enhanced tourism and economic prosperity.
