Zamfara State Police Commissioner Muhammad Dalijan says his command has arrested a number of high-profile persons in connection with banditry.

The Police Commissioner said this while hosting head of the counterterrorism unit at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Thomas Parker

He said those arrested include a current member of the State House of Assembly, a district head, and a former local government chairman.

He appealed to the United Nations to help establish a forensic laboratory, to eliminate the challenge of having to go to Lagos to conduct forensic and help strengthen the command in the area of training on investigation.

Dalijan said the crime rate has reduced considerably in Zamfara State due to the efforts of security agencies, in collaboration with Community Protection Guard who have been battling suspected terrorists migrating from Borno to Zamfara State .

The visiting UNODC counterterrorism unit head, Thomas Parker, said his team are in Zamfara on the heels of an appeal by Governor Dauda Lawal to the United Nations to assist the state in tackling insecurity.

He informed the police that they were there to conduct an assessment of the security situation to understand the root causes and challenges, and know the areas where assistance could be offered.
