The Bauchi State Government has cleared the air on the recent controversial demolition of shops and other illegal structures operating along major roads and corridors within the state metropolis.

Bauchi State Commissioner for Land and Survey, Amina Katagum, said the move is part of the developmental agenda of Governor Bala Mohammed to decongest the city centre, and improve the economic activities of the state.

Katagum said this during a joint media briefing, held at the Government House in Bauchi State, North-East Nigeria.

She says the move is part of the developmental projects of the Bala Mohammed-led administration’s efforts, to decongest the city centre and to further aid in the ease of doing business.

According to her, the government has already allocated designated areas for the affected traders, to properly and legally operate.

On his part, the Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Danlami Kawule, said the action would also help in addressing some of the environmental challenges, caused by building on waterways, and in some green areas.

While the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mahmoud Babama’aji, said the move will help in centralising and redesigning markets in the state, by attracting more investors for the economic growth and development of the state.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Abdulhamid Bununu, said the Bala Mohammed-led administration’s initiatives would equally help in improving the security of lives and properties for the people of Bauchi State.
