Female Vice Chancellors Converge to Break Barriers, Foster Gender Equity in Nigerian Universities

As Nigerian Universities strive for progress, Female Vice Chancellors are envisioning a future for greater gender equity and empowerment.

This vision took center stage at the First National Conference and Roundtable Calabar 2024 of the Association of Female Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, signaling a promising path ahead for higher education.

The hybrid Conference of the 24 female Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities held at the University of Calabar is aimed at at paving the way for future generations of Women in Leadership.

The First National Conference themed “Female Leadership in Higher Education Governance: Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges”, provided a platform for these exceptional women to share experiences, network and proffer solutions to key challenges facing Nigerian universities.

Speaking on the sidelines of the conference, the Chairman of the Committee of Vice Chancellors, Professor Lilian Salami, emphasized the importance of focusing on tasks and exceeding expectations, despite societal and professional challenges.

Professor Florence Obi, the host and Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, emphasized the need to recognize and reward competence, advocating for more women to lead Federal and State Universities.

Representative of the First Lady of Cross River State, Comfort Oko described the female Vice Chancellors as trailblazers, highlighting their crucial role in building a more equitable and prosperous society.
