Aba traders protest Army siege since killing of soldiers on May 30

ABIA STATE

Traders in the commercial city of Aba at the Ngwa Road Market have protested to the government of Abia State over the continued closure of their shops following the May 30 killing of five military men by unknown gunmen at Obikabia Junction in Obingwa Local Government Area.

Some of the traders who were at the Government House Umuahia with placards, appealed to Governor Alex Otti to intervene over alleged siege and intimidation by soldiers as the action of the military is causing untold hardship to their families.

President of the Traders Association, Chinedu Oforndu, expressed regret that they have not been able to gain access to their shops since the incident at Obikabia.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade, Commerce and Industry, Nwaka Inem, who received the protesters at commended them for their peaceful approach to the situation and assured that government will continue to take their welfare seriously while appealing to them to make available every information that will help in bringing the perpetrators of the Obikabia incident to book.

Inem urged the traders to remain calm with an assurance that their complaint would be transmitted to Governor Otti.
