Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, on Wednesday, exercised the powers conferred on him by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and granted pardon to 13 prison inmates.
In a statement signed by Gyang Bere, his director of Press and public affairs says the action follows a recommendations from the Plateau State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy to commemorate 25 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria.
Among the beneficiaries, are Bitrus Gonkir, Umar Adams, Monday Pam, and Jibrin Ibrahim, received absolute pardon, while Victor Pam will serve 1 year 8 months from approval date, Daniel Umar 2 years 11 months, Husaini Ya’u 2 years, and Dauda Joshua 5 years.

Moses John will serve 1 year 2 months from approval date; but Nanfa Yusuf, Harisu Abdullahi, and Binsing Nden had their death sentences commuted to life imprisonment.
Governor Mutfwang emphasized that the beneficiaries have shown remorse for their crimes, based on the recommendations from the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.
He urged the public to focus on dialogue and reconciliation for a progressive and prosperous state, highlighting democracy as the best model for addressing national challenges.
