The World Health Organization and Bayelsa state government have refuted earlier statement credited to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control that Bayelsa is among states with confirmed cases of cholera outbreaks.

State coordinator of WHO, Marcus Oluwadare and permanent secretary state ministry of health, Oluwatoyin Azebi gave the clarification at a press briefing in Yenagoa.

A recent report by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control had placed Bayelsa among other states with recorded cases of cholera outbreak.

Officials of World Health Organization, UNICEF, state ministry of health and religious body under the auspices of the Bayelsa state Task Force on Immunization were at the government house to brief the deputy governor on the true nature of things.

Shortly after the close door meeting, they told journalists that the state had 449 suspected cases which came out negative.

State coordinator of World Health Organization, says the positive feat recorded was due to the proactive steps of the state government in preventing any form of disease outbreak

Meanwhile the deputy Governor has mandated the ministry of health to take the necessary actions to forestall the situation at Okpoama, in Brass council area, where a giant whale that was grounded in the seaside of the community is being
butchered by the people as meat
