The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Ogun State branch has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the state government, threatening industrial action due to poor working conditions.

NMA Ogun State branch chairman Azim Kunle Ashimi who disclosed this on Thursday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital said, the ultimatum which was issued on June 7, 2024, will expire on June 27, 2024.

Ashimi while speaking on the ultimatum said, ongoing discussions with relevant government officials have only yielded verbal assurances without any official commitment.

Ashimi further explained that exodus of local workforce in search of greener pastures has greatly affected the health sector, urging residents to pressure the state government on the need to take necessary steps to prevent the looming strike.

On the Cholera epidemic spreading across the country, Ashimi noted that reported cases would be treated at free cost at designated health facilities in the state.

The Ogun State NMA chairman also raised alarm over rising cases of gambling among Nigerians, a development he said potentially leads individuals to drug addition.
