A young man is now battling for his life after an explosive device he was allegedly carrying during a protest march was detonated around the Hotel Presidential, along Aba Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, South-South Nigeria.

Early reports say that the victim who is yet to be identified was killed in the blast, but further investigations by AIT.live shows that the victim did not die, but lost a limb and was rushed to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

A visit to the Hospital shows heavy presence of armed security men drafted to ensure that the suspected “failed bomber” who was severely injured does not escape while undergoing treatment.

The incident was said to have occurred on Tuesday at about 9am local time during a protest march held by a political group from Obio-Akpor local government area. The suspect, who is yet to be identified, was quickly taken away by other protesters before the police arrived at the scene.

An alert was quickly put out to all public and private hospitals about the suspect who ended up at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital with the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh saying the suspect was presented to the hospital as a road accident victim by people who quickly disappeared and abandoned him.

The police have cordoned off the section of the hospital where the suspected bomber is receiving treatment. No one is allowed to see him, except members of the medical team assigned to administer treatment.

While the suspect is yet to be interrogated, the police is for now keeping a lid on the matter, saying that investigations are ongoing
