BAYELSA
Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri

The Bayelsa state Governor, Douye Diri says he is saddened at the ordeal and suffering that Nigerians plying the East- West road were facing due to the deplorable state of the Okogbe axis in Rivers State, describing the situation as chaotic and unacceptable.

Governor Diri speaking when he visited the area to have first hand knowledge of the condition of the road, called on the Federal government to either put the contractors on their toes or re-award it to another competent Company that can complete the project in due time , to ease the sufferings of the people.

The Bayelsa/Rivers states axis of the East-West road remains strategic to travelers transiting through the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria.

The deplorable state of the uncompleted federal road particularly the Okogbe axis which was compounded by the 2022 flood disaster, has become a nightmare to road users with many motorists stranded for days

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa state paid a visit to the area to ascertain the true nature of things.

He expressed annoyance that such an important road has remained in such near impassable conditions with the masses bearing the brunt.

Diri noted that as a region that lay the golden eggs, the people of the Niger Delta Region deserve better than the pitiable condition.

He called on the minister of works, Dave Umahi to pay a visit to the Okogbe area to see things for himself

While appealing to the people to be patient, the Governor charged those representing the Niger Delta Region at the national Assembly to make the interest of the region a priority on the floor of both chambers
