The Federal Government has ordered the immediate suspension of construction work on the Eleme-Onne axis of the East-West Road. The decision was taken by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi after his inspection of the project site.
The Minister who expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of work on the road reiterated the stance of the President Bola Tinubu administration to provide quality infrastructure for Nigerians and as such will not accept sub-standard jobs from any contractor. He cited the use of sub-standard materials by the contractor particularly the quality of sand used for the piling which he said was not the specification given.
The Minister also revealed that the Federal Government is considering the re-introduction of Toll Gates inorder to effectively maintain some of the major roads being constructed across the country.
