Paris Olympics: Brume, 2 Other Nigerians Through To Women’s Long Jump Final

It’s a bright day for Team Nigeria at the Paris games on Day 6 of athletics competitions.

All three Nigerian competitors in the women’s long jump including Tokyo 2020 Bronze medalist, Ese Brume have qualified for the final of the event.

Brume leapt a distance 6.76 the fourth best jump in the heat to lead the Nigerian contingent.

The double Commonwealth Games champion who was just 0.01m above the 6.75 automatic qualification mark was followed by Ruth Usoro who leapt 6.68 while Prestina Ochonogor qualified 7th best with a mark of 6.65m.

In the Women’s 400m repechage, Ella Onojuvwevwo returned in 50.59 seconds to qualify for the semifinal, while World Junior champion, Udodi Onwuzurike returned in 20.51 seconds to qualify for the men’s 200m semi final.

Earlier on Monday, Nigeria’s Favour Ofili returned a season’s best 22.05 seconds in the women’s 200m to finish with the third best overall time in the semifinals.

The Nigerian Sprint queen who missed out of the 100m after her name was omitted by the international Olympics committee (IOC) was second behind 100m champion, St Lucia’s Julien Alfred who clocked 21.98 in heat one of the semifinals.

Ofili’s 22.05 seconds time was third best overall in the semifinal with the United States, Gabrielle Thomas returning the fastest time 21.86 seconds, with a wind assisted 0.2 seconds.

Ofili will attempt to register her name in the history books in today’s final.
