Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno wants the Nigeria Army to establish a battalion in Oron local government area to help curtail the lingering security challenges around the coastal area of the state.
Governor Eno made the request when the Chief Of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Taoreed Lagbaja paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Uyo, the state capital.
The top brass of the Nigerian Army led by the Lieutenant-General Lagbaja are in Akwa Ibom State for the combined second and third quarters edition of the 2024 Chief Of Army Staff conference.
Receiving Lagbaja and his delegation, Governor Umo Eno applauded the choice of the state as host of the conference and used the occasion to ask for more military presence in the state.
Governor Eno commended the military and other security agencies for their synergy that has made the state relatively peaceful and safe.
Lieutenant-General Lagbaja expressed appreciation to the Government and people of the state for accepting to host the conference and for the support given to Army formations in the state. He assured of the continuous commitment of the Army towards safety and security in the state.
The week long Chief Of Army Staff conference is an opportunity for the senior officers and commanders to brainstorm on security issues and to develop new strategies to protect the country.
