Nigeria’s Power Minister, Adebayo Adelabu has unveiled the draft of the National Integrated Electricity Policy and Strategic Implementation Plan (NIEP-SIP), which the federal government says is a significant milestone in country’s journey to a robust and sustainable power sector.

The policy developed through extensive consultations with industry experts and stakeholders, aims to transform the Nigerian electricity sector into a resilient, efficient, and inclusive entity.

It focuses on achieving improved sector liquidity, creating an enabling environment for investment, integrating renewable energy sources, enhancing grid reliability, and ensuring equitable access to electricity for all Nigerians.

The success of the policy according to the Minister will require continued collaboration among all stakeholders.

At the unveiling on Wednesday in Abuja, the Minister emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in the implementation of the policy, urging stakeholders to remain engaged and supportive.

The NIEP-SIP is a comprehensive document outlining policy interventions across the entire value chain of the sector, from generation and transmission to distribution and off-grid segments.

It also places a strong emphasis on local content and capacity development, gender mainstreaming, and creating an enabling environment for investment.

The Minister expressed gratitude to stakeholders, industry experts, and development partners who contributed to the policy’s development, confident that their continued support will help achieve the goal of transforming the Nigerian power sector into a self-sustaining catalyst for economic growth and social development.
