The Benue State Government has inaugurated a Technical Working Committee to develop a climate change policy that would help protect the environment and effectively mitigate risks associated with impacts of climate change.
State Commissioner of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change Odoh Ogwu who performed the ceremony in Makurdi the Benue State capital says the State Government is fully committed to implementing the policy when realized.
Flooding, erratic rainfall patterns and other adverse effects of climate change have led to huge losses for farmers affected annually necessitating this inception workshop and stakeholders consultation for climate change strategies organised by the State Government in conjunction with Women Environmental Programme WEP here in Makurdi Benue State’s administrative capital.

Lead Consultant Huzi Mshelia presents the approach to actualize a draft outline of the document.
It’s day 2 of the inception workshop and Stakeholders consultation geared towards domesticating the National climate change policy with critical stakeholders optimistic of a resilient framework to sufficiently combat climate change threats.
Following this inauguration it is expected that in the next weeks, the technical working committee will come out with a document on climate change that would stand the test of time.
