Pregnant women in Bauchi State, North-East Nigeria now enjoy free micronutrient supplements. This is in an effort to fight anaemia and other killer diseases.

This was made known during a meeting, to scale up multiple micronutrient projects for pregnant women in the state between the Bauchi State Government, United Nations Children’s Fund, Unicef and other development partners.

AIT.live gathered that Unicef has donated 134,280 bottles of the Multiple Micronutrients Supplements, MMS to Bauchi State Government with samples for the scale-up programme.

Present at the meeting were the State Commissioner for Health, Adamu Sambo: Executive Chairman of Bauchi State Primary Health Development Agency, Rilwanu Mohammed; Unicef Nutrition Specialist, Philomena Irene and other partners.

For the Bauchi State Government, it is duty bound to prioritise maternal and child health, invest in healthcare infrastructure and strengthen health systems, to ensure that no pregnant women and their newborn children are left behind.

The programme, according to the Bauchi State Government and Development Partners, will be a continuous one, as pregnant women across Bauchi State will now access free micronutrient supplements in their respective primary health care centres.
