The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has asked its members to stand down the decision of its National Executive Council, NEC to begin mobilisation for a nationwide protest on Thursday, September 5, 2024.

This is contained in a letter by NLC General Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja to over forty-two affiliate unions of the Congress.

The letter read in part that “…this is to inform all affiliates and state councils that our appointment with the Nigerian Police will not hold tomorrow, Thursday, September 5th, 2024, as scheduled, our lawyer has communicated to the Police that the expected date is not convenient due to the Congress leadership’s
overloaded schedule”.

It further said that in line with the NEC decision, a new date will be arranged and communicated to all members once agreed upon.

Barely forty-eight hours after honouring police invitation, last week over alleged terrorism financing among others, the Nigeria Labour congress president, Joe Ajaero, was reinvited over ongoing investigations into what the police called the alleged case of Criminal Intimidation, Conducts Likely to Cause Breach of Public Peace and Malicious Damage to Properties, in which the name of Ajaero featured.

The letter dated August 28, 2024, was signed by Ibitoye Rufus Alajide, commissioner of police, OPS, for deputy inspector general of police, Force Intelligence Department, FID.

The letter requested Joe Ajaero to come along with the NLC General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja
for an interview with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, at SP0’s Room 212, second Floor, Force Intelligence Department Complex, Shehu Shagari way, opposite Force Headquarters Area 11, Garki, Abuja on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 11am.
