The Senate has confirmed the nominees submitted by President Bola Tinubu for appointment on boards and management of newly established North West Development Commission, NWDC and South East Development Commission, SEDC.

This decision followed the presentation and adoption of a report by the Senate Adhoc Committee on Regional Development, chaired by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

Senator Kalu noted that all nominees met the necessary requirements to hold public office during the screening process. The Senate approved 14 nominees for the NWDC and 18 for the SEDC.

Ma mild drama however ensued during the confirmation process when some lawmakers invoked Order 1(b) of Senate Rules in an attempt to step down the process for further consultations.

The motion failed as the Senate resolved to dissolve into the Committee of the Whole, where all nominees for both commissions were subsequently confirmed.

The 14 confirmed nominees for the NWDC include Chairman: Lawal Samai’la Abdullahi and Managing Director/CEO: Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji.

Other Members are Yahaya Umar Namahe, Aminu Suleiman, Ja’afar Abubakar Sadeeq, Yahaya Aminu Abdullahi, Muhammad Ali Wudil, Shamsu Sule, Nasidi Ali, Chukwu Chijioke, Ahmed Mohammed, Ahmed Rufai Timasantyu, Macdonalds Michael Uyi, and Babatunde Dada.
