NLC,NUPENG mourn Dikko Tanker Fire Victims

The Nigeria union of petroleum and natural gas, NUPENG is appealing to the federal government to urgently repair bad portion of roads, especially before the rainy season, to prevent avoidable acccidents

The union, an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC in a condolence message to the Niger state government, the federal government and families of victims in Saturday’s tanker explosion at Dikko junction, urged the relevant government safety and emergency management agencies to intensify efforts in sensitizirg the public about the dangers of scooping fuel from accidental situations of petroleum trucks on highways.

The statement which was jointly signed by NUPENG President William Akporeha and general secretary Afolabi Olawale, noted the union’s annual collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Police, and State Traffic Management agencies, to train and retrain Petroleum tanker drivers and others on best driving and safety practices.

While offering prayers for the souls of the departed, NUPENG urged all relevant authorities to provide the necessary support and medical care to those injured and to take measures to prevent future tragedies.

Two Petroleum tankers exploded on Saturday, January 18 at the Dikko Junction, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, along kaduna road after drivers were trying to transfer petrol from a fallen tanker to another, using an external power generating set.
