Some Security experts have faulted claims by the Nigerian police that a hit-and-run commercial driver killed the vanguard newspaper reporter, Tordue Salem who went missing four weeks ago.

Those who spoke to ait’s Funke Ogunlolu in Abuja, explained that there was a political undertone in the matter which security agencies must unmask.

Over hundred journalists in Abuja under the umbrella of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abuja chapter, on Tuesday, staged a protest to the Nigerian police force headquarters over the sudden disappearance of their colleague, who worked with the Vanguard Newspaper, Tordue Salem.

The Police had at that time assured the protesting pen pushers that the missing journalist would be found thereby rasing hopes.

The following day, the leadership of the National assembly also joined in the search for the whereabouts of the missing journalist.

All hopes were however shattered when the news broke that the body of the missing journalist was found in a morgue at wuse hospital Abuja.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba had at a news briefing told the world that a commercial driver, Itoro Clement admitted to have hit Salem around Mabushi/Wuse area of Abuja metropolis at about 10 pm on October 13. This claim did not sit well with many Nigerians especially security experts.

The colleagues of the Late journalist also questioned the police on its claim about the Hit-and-run car version of the story.

How this mysterious disappearance and killing of Tordue Salem is resolved remains a conjecture.
Reports from the Nigerian union of Journalists, NUJ and media foundations in west Africa reveal that there are seven such unresolved killings of journalists and 300 violations affecting about 500 media workers in Nigeria.
