The Special Operations Command of the Nigerian Air Force, (NAF) Bauchi, has held its 2025 intra-command research and development competition, with the theme: Optimising Civil-Military Cooperation in Research and Development, (R&D), for enhanced air operations.

The initiative, according to the Chief of Transformation and Innovation Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Adeniyi Amesinlola, is to leverage collaborative efforts between the military and civilian entities, to drive innovation and improve operational effectiveness.

The Research and Development competition has ten units, represented in the exercise.

Some of the potential areas are, exploration of joint research projects, on advanced materials, and aerodynamics, development of dual-use technologies, with both military and civilian applications, and enhanced communication and coordination protocols, between the military and civilian stakeholders.

The whole idea, according to the Chief of Transformation and Innovation, represented by the Director of the Nigerian Air Force Transformation, Air Vice Marshal Henry Yurkusi, is in preparation for the Nigerian Air Force Research and Development competition, coming up in May 2025, geared towards solving the emerging problems by themselves, through developing local innovations.
