The funfair and match past that usually makes workers day celebration exciting was canceled in Rivers State due to the directive from The national leadership of the Nigeria Labour congress NLC to all affiliated industrial unions as a result of the state of emergency rule declaration by president Bola Tinubu led government.
Addressing workers at their different state secretariats in Port Harcourt, the state chairman of NLC Alex Agwanwor and the TUC chairman comrade Ikechukwu Onyefuru called for the immediate reinstatement of the suspended governor of Rivers State.
Other States in the federation celebrated may day with funfair, but their counterpart in rivers state were confined to the secretariat where they had a peaceful rally advocating for democratic governance, improved welfare for workers, freedom and liberty.
The secretary to the Rivers state government, professor Worika Ibibia who was not invited by the NLC, however attended the celebration with some government officials.
