The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC has ended its retreat in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital with a call for an amendment of the Nigerian constitution to allow local government chairmen and councillors to be listed among beneficiaries of the renumeration package listed in the 1999 constitution of Nigeria as amended.
After a three day retreat to brainstorm on challenges facing the commission with the theme, Understanding The Role Of Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission and Other Major Stakeholders Agencies In Nation Building ,
The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC came out with recommendations to over come the challenges observed.
This was in the form of a communique at the end of the retreat which was presented by the Chairman, Public Affairs and Communication Committee, PACC, of the Commission, Ismail Agaka.
The Commission also spoke on the enforcement of autonomy for local governments and the separation of the office of the Accountant General of the Federation from that of the Federal Government.
The commission resolved to advocate for the amendment of relevant sections of the Petroleum Industry Act , PIA, to enable the expansion of the current board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, to include representatives of major stakeholders such as states, local government councils, Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN among others.
