The main hall of the newly inaugurated Enugu International Conference Centre came alive on Saturday as it hosted its first event, bringing together former lawmakers from across the country.
They are men and women who once served at the federal, state, and local levels, from 1992 to 2023.
The summit, initiated by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, set the stage for reflection on the past, and a call to action for the future.
Addressing the gathering, former House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara reminded the audience that stepping away from office does not mean stepping away from call to duty.

He stressed that as custodians of Nigeria’s legislative history, the former lawmakers have a unique responsibility to put national interest above personal or political gain and offer their wisdom to strengthen governance.
For Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, hosting the historic summit in the state was both fitting and symbolic.
From all indications, the summit has opened a new chapter, offering former lawmakers a platform to help strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and development.
