The leadership of the Academic staff Union of Universities, ASUU Bauchi says the Federal Government National Education loan fund (NelFund) programme for Undergraduate students is not accessible to less privileged Nigerian Students urging Government to adopt Grants rather than Loan.

This concern was raised during a presentation of ASUU National award of Indigent scholarships to twelve (12) qualified University students in the Zone, held at Sa’ adu Zungur University, Bauchi Campus.

The indigent students, two each from the six Universities from the zone, got cash donations of N200,000 amounting to N2.4 million Naira only.

The zonal Coordinators, professor Namo Timothy , and professor Lawan Abubakar, said ASUU indigent scholarships are aimed to capture and assist undergraduate students who are Academically qualified but economically disadvantaged.

They urged the Federal Government to provide Grants to Public University students instead of Loan.

Each leaders of the Branch in the zone thereafter made commitments to reciprocate the same gesture of the award scholarships to the qualified, most vulnerable students in their respective Universities.
