Suspected terrorists operating in the forest areas of Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State have launched a fresh attack on Wamba village and killed 2 members of the vigilante, while another was seriously injured.

A source within the area ait.live that 300 suspected terrorists on their motorcycles, each carrying one or two persons with sophisticated weapons, were sighted crossing the Kontagora to Minna highway between Kampanin Bobby and Wamba villages of Mariga LGA.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Monday, May 5, at broad daylight, where several motorists and people on transit trapped at Kampanin Bobby, even as some were seen moving towards Kontagora town to save their lives.

Local sources said that the suspected terrorists were coming from Zamfara State, crossing towards the Mashegu Local Government Area of the State.

An eyewitness and also a driver who stopped over at Kampanin Bobby had claimed that there was no presence of security operatives to confront the terrorists, who were moving freely to their destination.

But, a different sources confirmed that military officers stationed at Beri camp were later mobilised into the forest to confront the terrorists.

Confirming the development in a telephone conversation with ait.live, the Chairman of Mariga Local Council, Abbas Garba, disclosed that the joint security have been deployed to ensure the protection and safety of the communities.
