The Nigerian Senate has called on the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to launch a comprehensive investigation into the recent deadly attacks in Benue South, and to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The resolution followed a motion moved by the Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, under Orders 41 and 51.

Senator Moro lamented the killing of no fewer than 13 persons by suspected herdsmen in two communities Akpete and Ojantele, in Apa Local Government Area on May 1 and May 7, 2025

Describing the incident as one in a series of recurring attacks in the area, Moro expressed deep frustration that no arrests have been made so far, despite the growing loss of lives and destruction of property.

Supporting the motion, Senator Titus Zam, also from Benue State, said communities in the northwestern part of the state have similarly suffered relentless attacks, urging swift and decisive security interventions.

The lawmakers also Called on the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to review their operational strategies and adopt a more proactive approach.

They requested the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to immediately mobilize and deliver relief materials to victims displaced by the attacks in Echori and Itakpa communities.

The senate thereafter Observed a minute silence in honour of those who lost their lives.
