The Nigeria Women Football League has confirmed a total prize package of ₦24.5m for the ongoing 2025 NWFL Premiership Super Six playoffs.

According to the breakdown, the eventual champions will pocket ₦10m, maintaining the standard of the past two editions.

The runners-up will earn ₦6m, while the third-placed team gets ₦4m, both representing a ₦1m increase from last season.

Offering an increased financial incentives for all six participating clubs, the bottom three teams will each receive ₦1.5m, up from ₦500,000 last season.

The NWFL Chairperson Nkechi Obi described the revised prize structure as a critical part of the league’s ongoing efforts to professionalise women’s football in Nigeria.

The prize money comes in addition to the prestigious opportunity for the champions to earn Nigeria’s sole ticket to the WAFU regional qualifiers for Africa’s top club competition, CAF Women’s Champions League and potentially qualify for the inaugural FIFA Women’s Club World Championship next year, should they reach the final.

As the 2025 edition wraps up on Saturday, May 17, with match-day five encounters, unprecedentedly, four clubs — Bayelsa Queens, defending champions Edo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and debutants Remo Stars Ladies — remain firmly in contention for the title.

All three decisive fixtures featuring all the six teams will be played simultaneously at 3:00 pm at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.

Topping the table with eight points, Nasarawa Amazons face Edo Queens, who are just one point behind, in a high-stakes clash at the Main Bowl.

A win for either side may seal the championship, the Amazons will win it outright, but for the Benin Arsenals to emerge champions, Bayelsa Queens must not outscore them in the other fixture.

A draw could leave the door open for other contenders, depending on goal difference and goals scored.

On Pitch 4, Whyte Ogbonda’s Bayelsa Queens will look to bounce back from their first defeat in 17 games and capitalise on the situation when they take on Naija Ratels, who have yet to register a point.

A convincing win could be enough for the Prosperity Ladies to claim the title, provided the leaders drop points or Edo Queens fail to win with a superior number of goals scored.

Meanwhile, Remo Stars Ladies, playing on Pitch 2 against Rivers Angels, also remain in contention.

With a solid win and favourable results elsewhere, the hosts could pull off a stunning late surge to clinch the crown.

According to the competition rules, the final standings will be determined by goal difference, goals scored, goals conceded, and head-to-head, in that order, in the event of a tie on points.
