The deputy speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Maria Edeko elected under the platform of the PDP has voluntarily resigned from the position, given the fact that the All Progressives Congress, APC, has since attained majority status at the State House of Assembly, with eighteen seats as against the PDP’s six.
Following her resignation, the member representing Orhionmwon constituency one, Osamwonyi Atu was nominated and voted as Deputy Speaker.
The twenty four member of Edo State House of Assembly witnessed the Deputy Speaker of the house, Maria Edeko of Esan North East constituency two, who was elected under the platform of the PDP, voluntarily resigned from the position.
The member representing Orhionmwon constituency one, Osamwonyi Atu was nominated by his colleagues to take the position.
He was appreciative of the confidence reposed in him.

At the beginning of the year, the house was made of fourteen lawmakers from the PDP, nine from the APC, and one from Labour Party.
Several defections after, it is now made up of eighteen from the APC, leaving the main opposition party with six.members
