The Nasarawa State Government says it has received the refund of N9.54 billion from the Federal Government for the takeover of the former Lafia Cargo Airport, now renamed Usman Dan Fodio Airport.
Governor Abdullahi Sule said this during a special stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Lafia on Monday.
The Lafia Cargo Airport, now renamed Usman Dan Fodio Airport was commissioned three years ago by former President Muhammadu Buhari, and subsequently taken over by the Federal Government in 2022.
Since then, the Governor Sule administration has been pressing for reimbursement of the funds spent on the facility.

At the meeting of key stakeholders, including members of the National Assembly and traditional rulers, who played pivotal roles in ensuring the refund was approved, Governor Sule announced that the Nasarawa State Government has received the refund of N9.54 billion from the Federal Government for the takeover of the Lafia Cargo Airport, now renamed Usman Dan Fodio Airport
Several other speakers commended Governor Sule for his transparent leadership and impactful developmental initiatives.
The meeting also discussed ways to ensure proper utilization of the refunded sum, with consensus reached on channeling the money into road construction and other infrastructural projects aimed at opening up rural communities across the state.
