A large number of youths Wednesday staged a protest in Makurdi demanding justice for 23-year-old Emmanuella Ahenjir, a final-year student of the Federal University, Wukari who was killed by a yet to be identified police officer.
The incident, which occurred at the Wurukum roundabout in Makurdi on Friday morning, has continued to generate reaction and condemnation from the public.
Miss Ahenjir was believed to have been travelling in a car with a group of friends when they tried to evade a police check point at the Wurukum roundabout. As the car sped away, one police officer fired off a shot, which struck Miss Ahenjir, killing her instantly.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Emenari Ifeanyi, has ordered a detailed investigation into the case.
He assured friends and family of the deceased of his commitment to unravel the truth and ensure that the rule of law prevails.
