President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio

The Senate has passed the 2025 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Statutory Appropriation Bill, approving a total expenditure of N1.81 trillion for the fiscal year after a third reading.

The approved figure is N100 billion higher than the N1.7 Trillion originally proposed by President Bola Tinubu, aimed at bolstering infrastructure and services in the nation’s capital.

The passage follows the presentation and adoption of the report of the senate committee on FCT presented by Senator Ibrahim Bomai

According to the committee, the budget will be funded through projected internally generated revenue and federal allocations

A break down of the breakdown shows Personnel Costs: N150.35 billion (8.29%)

Overhead Costs: N352.03 billion (19.41%)

Capital Expenditure: N1.31 trillion (72.31%)

The total recurrent expenditure comprising personnel and overhead stands at N502.38 billion, while capital projects dominate the budget.

Senator Bomai explained that the budget was developed after detailed consultations with the Minister of the FCT and senior officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

Lawmakers praised the FCT Minister for transformative efforts in reshaping the capital city and expressed confidence that the increased allocation will enhance infrastructure, boost service delivery, and bring the FCT at par with leading capital cities around the world.
