President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep concern over the severe flooding in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State which has led to loss of lives and displacement of numerous families.
The President directed the immediate activation of the National Emergency Response Centre and mobilization of federal agencies to support the Niger State Government’s response.
Search-and-rescue operations are underway and relief materials and temporary shelters are being established in affected areas.
President Tinubu assured those impacted that the government stands with them and will provide a swift and compassionate response.
President Tinubu in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga also directed security agencies to assist in emergency operations and mandated that NEMA and the National Emergency Response Centre provide continuous coordination and updates on the incident.
He called on all Nigerians to keep the people of Mokwa in their thoughts and prayers.
In another development, President Tinubu has expressed grief over the accident involving members of Kano State contingent returning home from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
The President extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kano State, as well as to the families and loved ones of the deceased.
