United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF says integrated mobile outreach is helping to bring essential services to those most in need.

UNICEF’s Chief of Field Operations in Nigeria, Judith Leveillee made the remarks during a monitoring visit to Gidan Mai Gari in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State where basic healthcare is a luxury.

The outreach led by UNICEF is in collaboration with Kaduna State Ministry of Health.

The initiative delivers critical services such as immunisation, antenatal care, nutrition support, birth registration, and hygiene awareness directly to hard-to-reach communities.

The UNICEF Chief of Field Operations expressed concern over visible cases of vaccine-preventable diseases like mumps among children.

She emphasised that such conditions are entirely avoidable and stated that the mobile outreach is a vital step in reaching those often forgotten.

Data from the Kaduna State Ministry of Health reveals that Gidan Mai Gari is among communities struggling with low immunisation coverage, poor health-seeking behaviour, and widespread malnutrition among children.

For villagers there, the outreach is a rare opportunity to receive care.

Leveillee also stopped at a Tsangaya school in Anguwan Kanawa, where a pilot project is integrating formal education into the Qur’anic learning system, broadening the future for out-of-school children.
