The Borno State government has donated the sum of three million naira to victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa, Niger state.

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum announced the donation when he led a state delegation on a sympathy visit to Government House, Minna.

He said the donation is to complement the efforts of the Niger state government in addressing the challenges of the disaster.

In his comments on the flash flooding that claimed over 200 lives and destroyed property and livelihoods, Prof. Zulum said it is time for all sub-national governments to work collectively to mitigate the effects of climate change.

He also urged the Federal Government to establish a robust mechanism to prepare for such natural mishaps.

Niger state Governor Umar Bago in appreciation of his Borno State counterpart’s gesture, described the visit and the donation as a timely show of love.

He said the funds will be judiciously utilised, adding that intense advocacy is ongoing on the need for the people to stay away from river banks and other flood prone areas.
