KATSINA

In a coordinated effort with sister security agencies, the Nigeria Police Force says, it has recorded significant successes in the ongoing fight against violent crimes across the country.

In separate operations in Katsina and Delta States, Police operatives rescued 11 kidnapped victims, arrested two suspected kidnappers, and recovered a large cache of illegal arms and the ammunition.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in Katsina State, on June 8, 2025, a major breakthrough was recorded when a Joint Task Force comprising Police operatives and other security agencies foiled a kidnap attempt along the Danmusa–Mara Dangeza village road in Danmusa Local Government Area.

The team, while on patrol, engaged armed bandits in a fierce gun battle as the criminals tried to flee with their captives. The operatives overpowered the assailants, forcing them to abandon their victims and escape with gunshot injuries. All 11 kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt.

In Delta State, Police operatives attached to the CP-Special Assignment Team, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Abubakar Hassan, a 30-year-old suspect believed to be a key figure in a cross-state kidnapping syndicate operating across Delta, Rivers, Imo, and Enugu States.

During interrogation, Hassan confessed to leading operations along the Ughelli-Ozoro axis. He subsequently led the Police to his hideout in a forest in Ozoro, where operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and thirty-two rounds of live ammunition.

This operation follows the earlier arrest of three other members of his gang.

Similarly, officers of the Safer Highway Patrol, during routine stop-and-search duties along Ughelli road, intercepted a vehicle. A thorough search led to the recovery of one locally fabricated revolver, a pump-action single-barrel rifle, and fifteen rounds of live cartridges. The driver, identified as Obi Ezekiel, aged 38, was arrested on the spot.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has praised the bravery and professionalism displayed by the officers during these operations. He is urging all Commands across the country to sustain the momentum in the fight against violent crime.
