Port Harcourt Renowned businessman, philanthropist, and political leader, High Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, marked his birthday with a deeply personal message of gratitude, reflection, and a passionate call for true democracy to be restored in Rivers State.
In a moving statement shared on the occasion, the revered statesman expressed profound appreciation for the gift of life and the privilege of witnessing another year. Describing every birthday beyond 60 as “a miracle and a testimony,” Chief Lulu-Briggs acknowledged the divine grace that has sustained him, while dedicating his life as “a gift, a light, a voice, and a guide” to his people and nation.
Notably, the celebrant tied his personal milestone to the broader national conversation on democracy, particularly in the wake of Nigeria’s Democracy Day.
“The proximity of my birthday to Democracy Day is not lost on me,” he wrote.
“It strengthens my sense of duty… to my beloved Rivers State, and to the nation at large.”
Chief Lulu-Briggs decried the continued political tensions in Rivers State and criticized the President’s Democracy Day address for failing to address what he described as the “unsettling realities” in the state.
He reaffirmed his solidarity with the people of Rivers State, insisting that their voices must not be silenced.
“We demand a democratic resolution to our crisis, one that honors the will of the people and the sanctity of governance,” he stated firmly.
The High Chief also extended his condolences to the victims of the recent Air India plane crash, expressing sympathy and prayers for the affected families, and urging all to treat life as sacred, both theirs and others’.
