There seems to be a ray of hope for Delta residents who groan over high cost of house rents as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Emomotimo Guwor has announced that there is a bill in the making to check rent increase and promote affordable housing for Delta residents.

He decried the high rents in urban centers like Asaba, Warri, Sapele, and Ughelli, saying the House intervention will tackle this serious challenge that brings emotional and psychological trauma to low and middle income earners

Guwor who was speaking during a press conference in Asaba to mark the end of second session and 2nd anniversary of the 8th Assembly said the rent control bill is sequel to numerous complaints from constituents across the state concerning rent increases.

According to the Speaker, the bill sponsored by House Leader Emeka Nwobi and 27 other members and already listed for its first reading for a balanced and enforceable law, will be pursued with input from relevant stakeholders: landlords associations, real estate developers, Ministry of Housing and the civil society.

The speaker also said the house also has a bill to amend the existing State Community Security Corps Agency to give room for integration of indigenes who are familiar with the terrain to assist in security and providing intelligence to security operatives.
