The European Union(EU) says it remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s efforts at tackling multi-dimensional transnational crimes as well as legal matters involving EU members states

This was said during a high-level meeting hosted by Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice and the European Union in Abuja on Tuesday

Vice-President of Eurojust (the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation), José de la Mata Amaya who made the point described the Abuja meeting as a follow up on the working arrangements signed between the EU and Nigeria in 2023.

Amaya, who acknowledged the borderless nature of crime called for a united front in dealing with it.

EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, described the meeting as a strong expression of the joint willingness of Nigeria and the UN agencies to fight transnational crime in a more coordinated and efficient way.

The Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Beatrice Jedy-Agba described international judicial cooperation as invaluable in helping countries resolve cases that may otherwise have failed due to jurisdictional issues such as insufficient grounds for advancing requests for extradition
