NUJ Urges Journalists To Remain Steadfast, Maintain Ethical Standards

Journalists and other media practitioners in Nigeria have been urged to remain steadfast in keeping to the ethical standards required for the journalism profession to enable them be in a better position to set agenda for society.

Veteran Journalist, Hameed Adio, Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, Abdullateef Ahmed and other speakers made the call during a media capacity training on the role of media in safeguarding adolescents in communities in ilorin the kwara state capital.

Speakers at the event say journalists must work beyond just informing and educating society, but must also see themselves as role models and agenda setters because society according to them looks up to those within the journalism profession.

The speakers also want journalists to create more awareness and education on impacted adolescents particularly in areas such as mental health, including all forms of bullying amongst others to safeguard adolescents in both online and offline.

Attention for the girl child according to the speakers is quite low but expressed hope that forum such as this would help create the window to further broden the conversation on better ways to safeguard the adolescent child in the overall good of society.
