Insecurity: COAS vows to clamp down on Benue, Plateau killers

Acting Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede has given indication of the Nigerian Army’s resolve to hunt down and bring to justice, all those behind the recent killings and attacks in Benue, Plateau, and other parts of the North-Central region of the country.

Lieutenant General Oluyede who was represented by tbe general officer commamding second division major general obinna onubogu stated this while declaring open a media chat organised by the Nigerian Army in Akure the Ondo State capital.

In Benue, at least 150 people were killed in a recent attack , while in Plateau, over 100 people were killed in two separate attacks within a period of two weeks.

While fielding questions from journalists, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede who was represented by the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Major General Obinna Onubogu, says the military is fully committed to ending the spate of violence, promising to arrest perpetrators of the dastardly acts.

The Nigerian Army while emphasising on media’s crucial role in moulding public perception urged journalists and participants at the engagement of shared responsibility in shaping the narrative within Nigeria’s security landscape.

According to the Nigerian Army, the media engagement underscores the growing recognition of the fact that effective military-media collaboration is essential not only for countering misinformation but also for strengthening national cohesion, enhancing transparency, and supporting development
