Niger State Police Command has confirmed an attack by suspected armed robbers on a student lodge at the Ndakitabu area of Lapai, in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.

A statement by spokesperson of the police in the state, Wasi’u Abiodun said that during the incident this Monday at about 3 am, the armed robbers stabbed a 200-level student of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, simply identified as Jafaar, on the neck.

Abiodun said Jafaar who was rushed to Lapai General Hospital by police operatives for medical attention, was confirmed dead on arrival.

The police spokesman said the suspects had fled the scene by the time police operatives arrived there.

Abiodun said that following the incident, students barricaded the Agaie-Lapai road, protesting, but police tactical teams were dispatched to Lapai to ensure that normalcy is restored.

The police added that an investigation into the incident has commenced on the directive of the State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman who wants the armed robbers brought to book.
