Ogoni Clean-up Projects: Stakeholders Meet To Reappraise Progress

Leaders of the Ogoni ethnic nationality say they are satisfied with the efforts of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project’s (Hyprep) in the implemention of the environmental remediation and various projects aimed at addressing the pollution challenges in Ogoniland over the past two years.

Speaking at the ogoni stakeholders on projects status in port Harcourt, the Ogoni leaders urged their people to support and own the project, emphasizing the renewed vigour of the agency in tackling the environmental issues affecting the region for decades.

Various leaders of Ogoni land, including traditional rulers, youths, and women gathered to review the two-year progress of the Ogoni cleanup project being executed by
Hyprep; its core mandated is to remediate all the polluted environment in the niger delta region,starting with the ogoni clean up emphasized the importance of collaboration.

These Ogoni leaders noted that the project’s impact will be felt across Ogoni land, leading to significant community development and growth.

The Hyprep Project Coordinator, Prof Zabbey listed the progress made over the past two years in line with the project’s policy of transparency, accountability, and inclusivity to include the remediation of polluted sites, provision of potable water, restoration of mangroves, and the generation of employment opportunities for over 7,000 Ogoni women and youths. Construction of Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration, among others

The mid-term scorecard offers an opportunity to present tangible evidence of progress in the ogoni clean-up efforts.
