In a bold move to deepen grassroots governance, preserve cultural heritage and promote inclusivity across traditional institutions in Bauchi State, Governor Bala Mohammed has appointed a forty-one-member High-Powered Committee, for the creation of new emirates, chiefdoms and districts in the state.

A press release signed by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, said the committee is to review and appraise all the memoranda received by the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in line with the defined criteria, and superintend the process, for the determination of deserving Emirates, Chiefdoms, and Districts.

The statement reminded the general public on the earlier invitation by the State Government to interested communities in the state to submit their memoranda of request for the creation of new Emirates, Chiefdoms or Districts.

Gidado noted that the committee would be guided in all its recommendations by equity and fairness, while ensuring socio-political inclusiveness and financial sustainability, for the emirates, chiefdoms or districts to be created.
