The Day Two of the Senate Zonal Public Hearing on the Review of 1999 Constitution for the Northeast in Maiduguri, Borno State started with a demand for creation of Savannah State, out of Borno.
Many speakers, including senators from the North East region, aligned themselves with the request.
The proposed Savannah State is Senator Ali Ndume’s constituency made up of 9 local government areas.
Ndume who led the pack of people clamouring for the new state out of Borno said Savannah is long overdue.
Former Senate President Ahmed Lawan and the Senate’s Chairman on Special Duties, Kaka Lawan, endorsed the proposal.

There were other requests for additional local governments in the region and women also sought inclusion, equity and justice.
People with Disabilities also made a case for inclusivity.
The two-day event was chaired by Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau, who was represented by Senate Chief Whip, Mohammed Monguno.
