Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved an annual bursary package of ₦1 billion for students of Edo origin in tertiary institutions across the country.

Governor Okpebholo, during a town hall meeting with young people in Edo State recently, pledged to look into a passionate request made by various youth leaders.

The youths had requested the introduction of bursaries to assist Edo indigenes pursuing higher education in various institutions nationwide.

This development was confirmed in a press statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua.

According to the statement, the bursary initiative is coming just eight months into Governor Okpebholo’s administration, is planned to be an annual programme aimed at reducing the financial burden on students and their families.

Eligibility for the scheme, the governor noted, will be strictly based on proper verification through the applicants’ Local Government Areas to ensure only genuine Edo indigenes benefit.

Governor Okpebholo stated that the bursary aligns with his administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality education, promoting academic excellence, and empowering Edo youths to play active roles in the development of the state and the nation.
